Obituary for Anita J. Calhoun

Anita June Calhoun was born April 7, 1936 in Lone Grove, Oklahoma to Cornelius Ray Bourns and Eva Myrtle Bourns (nee Carriker). Her parents moved June and her brother Don to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she attended Capitol Hill High School.

June met and fell in love with a good looking young man named Kenneth Calhoun. After a short courtship they married and started a family.

While raising three children, June was active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Band Parents Booster Club at Carl Albert Junior and Senior High Schools.

Once her children were raised, June began working as a manager at a daycare center before she became a Youth Guidance Specialist for the State of Oklahoma at the Pauline Mayer Children's Shelter where she worked until she retired.

In retirement she and Ken were avid fans of OU Women's Basketball. For years they held season tickets and were seated near the action at most home games. June also accompanied Ken on trips, in particular, the annual GTO Bash in Wichita, Kansas and many trips to Washington, D.C., where she loved the National Arboretum. But above all, June relished spending time with her grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her parents and a great grandson, Jonah Thomas Henson.

She is survived by her husband, Ken Calhoun; daughter, Gayla Wilson and husband Steve; sons, Kenneth Calhoun, Jr. and Scott Calhoun; grandchildren, Taryn Wilson, Ally Henson and husband Jason, Jensen Johnson, Maddie Calhoun, Hannah Calhoun, Kenzli Calhoun; great grandsons, Wil and Jack Tanksley; brother, Don Bourns and wife Janice; and her beloved Corgi boy, Tuc.

Although we grieve, and she will be greatly missed, comfort is taken in the knowledge that she is in the arms of our Father and Lord of all creation.
