Obituary for Billy R. Evans

Billy Ross Evans, 88 of Oklahoma City returned to his celestial home on January 29, 2018 surrounded by his adoring family. He was born in Oklahoma City on August 1st, 1929 to Bruce "Ross" and Dorsie Evans. He had one sister, Jo Ann. His father passed away when he was just 5 years old and Dorsie moved back to Oklahoma to live with her sister Leona and her husband Jim on a farm outside Guthrie. That's where Bill grew up and attended high school. He was active in FFA in high school and won several blue ribbons for his prize pigs under Jim's tutelage.

Dorsie eventually remarried Harley Sink and they moved to Colorado where Bill lived for a short time before he decided to return to Oklahoma to be inducted into the army during the Korean conflict. In Wynnewood, OK he met the love of his life, Margie Lee Ensey just before leaving for boot camp. They were married for 65 years, and Bill said many, many times that he was the "luckiest guy in the world and wouldn't take a Bazillion, Jillion dollars for Marge". They had one son, Steven Ross Evans who resides in Scottsdale, AZ with his wife Candice Evans.

Bill served in the Army as a Medic, earning honorable discharge with rank of Sergeant. He attended Oklahoma Tech on the GI bill where he became a draftsman. His first job offer was from Conoco Oil Company in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Ponca became their home for the next 35 years and Bill retired from Conoco at the ripe old age of 55. He and Marge enjoyed retirement for three decades, after moving to the Oklahoma City area.

Bill was a devout Christian and lived his life as such. He was a kind, caring and sweet man, who touched many others in his lifetime. Everyone who met him just fell in love with him. You could not like his sweet, gentle soul. He spent much of his life ministering to others, reading and studying the bible, and writing devotionals. Bill has two Grandchildren; Whitney Evans and Parker Ross Evans, who he loved and adored. They were at his side when he passed, as devoted to him as he was to them.

Bill was preceded in death by his sister Jo Ann Clodfelter; step brother; David Sink. Surviving is his sister; Jane Miller Sink and husband Fred Miller, of Ponca City. Brother-in-law; Lee Ensey, and wife Carolyn, of Oklahoma City, step grandchildren; Traci Grimm, Colton Brainard, and great granddaughter; Kalia Smith who reside in Scottsdale, AZ.

There's no doubt that there is a large VIP suite waiting for Billy in heaven. Our only concern is that he may get sent to the back of the line at the pearly gates for talking too much. Certainly there are many, but none more deserving than him. We had him on loan for 88, "and a half", (as he would say), years. God just missed him too much. He will be missed, but always remembered and adored.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, January 31st at the Barnes Friedrich Funeral Home in Midwest City from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A family graveside service will be on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.. at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Special thanks to Valir Hospice for allowing Dad to enjoy his remaining days in the comfort of his home.
