Obituary for Charles L Clark

Charles L. Clark passed peacefully on Sunday, July 9th, 2017. He was surrounded by
his 3 children, their spouses, and eight (8) of his sixteen (16) grandchildren and great

Charles was born on September 11, 1925, in Decatur, Texas to Leo and Mary Vestal Clark who predeceased him along with his siblings; Wayne Clark and Mary Jo Copeland.

Charles survived his 1st wife of 41 years, Wanda "Deanie" Clark, the mother of his children; his 2nd wife, Dorothy Smith and his special friend Esther Swan. He is survived by daughters Lynda (Bill) Atkinson and Lori (Steve) Coleman and son, Mike (Mary "Missy") Clark; 6 grandchildren including Lisa Munz, Billy Atkinson , Kristin Rusler, Lindsay Budd, Chelsea Rusler and Katie Mannis, as well as 10 great grandchildren .

Following his 1943 graduation from Altus High, Charles enlisted in the USN and served his country during WWII. He served in the Pacific theater on the USS Supply IX 147 and saw action in The Coral Sea and off shores of New Guinea, Pelelu and Okinawa. He was proud to be honored by Oklahoma Honor Flights on the 1st of its 24 flights to transport Oklahoma WW II vets to visit the WWII Memorial .

Charles married Wanda Spencer of Blair, Oklahoma in 1950. They made their home and reared their children in Del City. Charles worked in the automobile business for 58 years until the age of 82. He thoroughly enjoyed his work through which many of his customers became his friends . A true "Ford man" he was, as he loved driving his red T-Bird convertible to visit his friends and family, to Kiwanis Club meetings in Del City, to OU games and to the club at Quail Creek .

Charles was the consummate gentleman, always kind, polite and quick to comfort with a smile or a word of praise. He loved traveling and seeing the world. He attended Quail Springs Baptist Church and valued living a life reflective of his Lord Jesus Christ.
