Obituary for Cynthia Sue "Cindy" Colvin

Cynthia Sue “Cindy” Colvin passed away Wednesday morning, October 4, 2017 in Midwest City, OK at the age of 85.

She was born August 13, 1932 in Howell, MI to Marguerite Ellen Sullivan and Eric Fred Doerr. She was their only child. Cynthia was raised in Miami, FL where she attended high school and Florida State University.

In November 1951 she married Hayes B. Colvin, Jr., who she met only six weeks earlier during her spring break and his leave after basic training in the United States Air Force. Cynthia was a dedicated and strong military wife, mother and homemaker. Over the 20 years of military family life, she and the family moved to many places domestic and foreign and without much notice, including her husband’s deployment, often 18 months at a time. However, Cynthia was strong and determined to do what she needed to quickly maintain family transition and well-being, which included taking over primary responsibility for herself and her family during deployment. The last military relocation was to Tinker Air Force Base in 1963, eventually settling in Midwest City. Cynthia was a gold star wife.

Cynthia was a dedicated, long-term volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program through St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. She drove a weekly route delivering food to homebound seniors. She was active as a volunteer up until her death. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and reading.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite and Fred and her husband of 53 years, Hayes.

Cynthia leaves behind daughters, Debbie Colvin of Oklahoma City, OK, Cheryl Moll and husband Max of Broken Arrow, OK; son, David Colvin of Midwest City, OK; granddaughter, Kelly Gorton and husband Brian and their sons, her great-grandsons, Maddox and Bennett Gorton of Jenks, OK.

Cynthia was a loving wife, proud and loyal military wife, a proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a wonderful friend to many. She will be dearly missed!

Visitation will be held at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City, OK on Saturday, October 7, 2017 and Sunday, October 8, 2017 between the hours of 8:00 am - 8:00 pm.
