Obituary for Doris G. Kusler

Doris Gene Edwards Kusler passed away after 52 days in the hospital on July 21, 2017 in Midwest City, OK at the age of 77.

Doris was born December 26, 1939 in Oklahoma City, OK to Jack and Winnie Edwards. She married Johnny Kusler on July 26, 1956. Over 11 years (1956-1967) the couple welcomed 5 children into their home. Johnny remembers his wife as loving, caring, the family matriarch, and his partner, his everything. During their 61 years together, Doris always brought Johnny his morning coffee in bed. Her children will remember her as a loving, giving, patient, and kind mother who always wanted them to be the best they could be.

Doris was a very good cook and enjoyed preparing meals and feeding as many people as she could. She was a very giving soul who always wanted to help others when she was able. Doris looked forward to Friday nights where she would have dinner at her house and afterwards, a few of her sisters, nieces, and nephew would play Mexican Train dominoes. She also looked forward to holidays, and spending as much time with family as possible. She was a member of Life Church in Midwest City, OK

Doris is survived by her husband, Johnny Kusler of the home; children Judy Kusler Welch of Oklahoma City, OK; James Kusler and wife Susan of Wellston, OK; Jack Hill and wife Sheila of Cabool, MO; Tony Kusler and wife Terri of Macon, GA; and Sheila Kusler of Midwest City, OK; siblings Laverne Dawkins of Oklahoma City, OK; Charles Edwards of Oklahoma City, OK; Patricia Reed of Oklahoma City, OK; Dennis Edwards of Fall River, MA; Leroy Edwards of Midwest City, OK and Connie Johnson of Spencer, OK; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Winnie Edwards; siblings Jackie Hill, Billy Edwards; and Paula Edwards.

The family would like to thank Alliance Health of Midwest City, OK ICU nurses for their efforts, care and dedication during Doris’ lengthy hospital stay.

A reception will follow the funeral services at Dickson Baptist Church at 2000 N. Spencer Rd., Spencer, OK. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris’ life.
