Obituary for Dulen E. Small

SMALL, DULEN, E., 85, of Del City, Oklahoma, passed away on 18 Jun, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born March 17, 1932, in Nichols, South Carolina, he was the son of Craven and Elma Small.
Dulen served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. After his military service, he began a long career as a Department of Defense Civil Servant. He distinguished himself as a stellar employee and was often recognized for his contributions to the Air Force mission. He retired after 34 years of service as a Quality Inspection Supervisor.
Dulen met his beautiful bride, Emma Cooper, in 1955. It was love at first sight for him. They married 6 months later and were happily married for 61 years. Throughout those 61 years, he remained steadfastly in love with his Emma and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for his family mirrored Christ’s love in that he was patient, kind, and selfless. His love protected, strengthened and upheld. It never failed and it persevered even when tested. How blessed we were to be his family.
In many ways, he was an unsung hero. He quietly went about loving and serving others whether it was buying a central air conditioning system for a needy neighbor with small children or being the neighborhood grandpa to so many. His mark on all our lives will continue to live on for generations to come.
He is survived by his loving wife, along with two children; Ken and Kris Small of Garland, Texas; Sandy Kellington of Oklahoma City; 4 grandchildren, Adam and Devon Small, Tyler and Jennifer Small, Lindsey and Shane Hope, and Beau Kellington; 6 great-grandchildren; Craven, Jaxon, Braeden, Jude, Hoyt, and Reagan, his brother Craven Duboyce and Emily Small, and many other loving nieces, nephews and sister and brother in laws. He is preceded in death by his parents, Craven and Elma Small, and his adored sister, Carolyn Pearce.
Memorial services for Dulen Small will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 23, 2017, at Sooner Baptist Church, Midwest City, Oklahoma, with interment following at Arlington Memory Gardens.
