Obituary for Gary Dale Underwood

Gary Dale Underwood of Midwest City, Oklahoma, passed Monday July 10, 2017, at the age of 77 years. Gary was born May 3, 1940, in Mena, Arkansas; he was the son of William H. and Pearl (Blackwell) Underwood.

He was the youngest of four children. He is survived by his brother, William H. Underwood Jr.; daughters, Kelly Killian of Tecumseh, Karen Wilburn of Oklahoma City, and Karol Underwood of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Underwood; and sister, Linda Haussler.

He married Gwendolyn Jackson in 1962 and they divorced in 1993. He came to Oklahoma in 1965 with his family and ten dollars in his pocket, where he became a bookkeeper. He later leased a gas station from Mobil Oil. In 1977 Mobil Oil recognized them for their record gas and barbecue sales, awarding them a trip to the superbowl that same year. Later when their son-in-law, David Wilburn and trusted employee Ernestean Warden came aboard they were able to remove the gas pumps and achieve their dreams in the barbecue business.

He married Debbie A. Reed in 1994 and they divorced in 2001.They raised her three girls, Krissie, Teri, and Keri.

He loved to sing, play golf and was an avid OU football fan, he also developed a love for gardening, especially his roses. He had the best sense of humor and was quite the jokester. We will always remember that big smile and cherish all the good times and laughs we shared, you were loved more than you knew and will be deeply missed.

We will carry out our Fathers last wishes to scatter his ashes on one side of Rich Mountain & our Mothers on the other side.
