Obituary for Irma E. (Veazey) Powers

Irma E. Powers was born to Orlando Bell Veazey and Emma Alice Russell Veazey in Westville, Oklahoma on 21 June 1926. She stepped into the arms of Jesus on 31 January 2018. After graduating from Westville High School, on the invitation of her big sister Peggy, she moved to Washington, DC during World War II to work for the FBI. Later, Irma worked for Sears in their catalog department running a teletype machine.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Joe Powers. Irma is survived by her children, Linda Doerman of Edmond, Don Arnold of Melbourne, Florida, John Powers of Garland, Texas, Scott Powers of Midwest City and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

After retirement, Irma and Joe volunteered for multiple Christian mission trips to both home and abroad. She was faithful in her: Bible study, tithing, missions groups, prayer life, delivering mobile meals and homemaking. Irma was a great listener and generous with both her laughter and “farm girl” wisdom.

We would like to thank Autumn Leaves Memory Care, Edmond and Sooner Hospice for their Christ-like care and the myriad of tender mercies granted to both Irma and the family.

A private service for the family will be held at Arlington Memory Gardens Chapel at 2PM, on 5 February 2018.

In lieu of flowers consider a donation to Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children or the Oklahoma Baptist General Convention Native American Ministries.
