Obituary for Jane Allen

JANE ALLEN September 3, 1922-February 27, 2017 Jane Vickers Wylie Allen passed away on February 27, 2017, in Midwest City. She was born September 3, 1922, in Santa Fe, NM, the only child of Rachael (McClure) and Don Vickers. In 1923, the family moved to Sapulpa, OK, where Jane attended school and graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1940. She graduated from Cottey College, Nevada, MO, in 1942 and the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1943. In 1955, Jane and her family moved to Midwest City, where she raised her sons. She retired from Civil Service at Tinker Air Force Base in 1987 and married Robert (RD) Allen in 1993. Jane was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Midwest City for 61 years. She was a member of P.E.O., Chi Omega sorority, a charter life member of the Oklahoma City/County Historical Society, the First Families of the Twin Territories, Sapulpa Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Officers" Spouses Club at Tinker Air Force Base, Reserve Officers Association League, Sapulpa High School Alumni Association, Cottey College Alumni Association, the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association, Premiere Reviewers Book Club, and several bridge clubs. She volunteered at the Midwest City Hospital and was a substitute teacher after her retirement. Jane was a devoted fan of the Oklahoma Sooners football and basketball teams and the Oklahoma City Thunder. When she no longer could attend games, she always wore her OU and Thunder shirts on game days. Jane was an avid world traveler, having visited six of the seven continents. Favorite experiences included traveling on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, flying on the Concorde from London to New York City, riding a camel at the Egyptian Pyramids, walking on the Great Wall of China, visiting the Holy Land, sailing on the Amazon River, riding an elephant at the Taj Mahal in India, staying in a yurt in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia, and hiking the trail at Machu Picchu. Jane had many collections, including angels, nutcrackers, Frankhoma pottery, travel magnets, Hummel figurines, tea cups, and Oklahoma and OU memorabilia. She was always impeccably dressed. No outfit was complete without matching jewelry, purse, and shoes. In the fall of 2011, Jane and RD moved to FountainBrook Assisted Living Facility, where she enjoyed bingo and exercise classes. The family wishes to express appreciation to FountainBrook, Visiting Angels of MWC, and Hospice Quality Care for taking great care of Jane. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and stepson, Darrell Allen. She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Allen; son, Don Wylie; son, Van Wylie and wife Suzanne; stepdaughter, Janelle Turner and husband David; stepdaughter-in-law, Anne Allen; stepgrandson, Jonathan Allen and wife Kalista; and stepgrandson, Sean Turner. A service of remembrance will be held at Barnes-Friederich Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 3, with interment at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City.
