Obituary for Mary Drue West

Mary Drue West of Choctaw, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the age of 87, at last liberated from the isolation of Alzheimer’s disease.

Mary was born to Wayne C. and Dessie Cleo Gladen in a log room of her family’s home in Joplin, Texas.

She graduated high school in Ft. Worth, Texas then met and married her beloved husband “Kenny” of 67 years. She became a devoted homemaker and mother. She was creative, athletic and famous for her delicious pies. She was dedicated to her “Church Family” at Choctaw United Methodist Church. She was truly a confidant to her many friends and especially her family. She was trustworthy and true, loved by many and considered witty, feisty, a little bit sassy and “a real corker”. While enjoying her 33 years of being a “snowbird” at Port Aransas, Texas, her love of the ocean and amazing fishing skills earned her the title “Queen of the Jetty”.

Mary is survived by her son, Rick and his wife Connie West; daughter, Diane West; grandchildren, Matthew and wife Rachel, Allison and fiancé Matthew, Natalie and husband Adam; great grandchildren, Owen, Isla and Henrik.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Sherwin Haroldean and Van Mac Gladen and her husband, Carl Kenneth West.

Viewing is scheduled from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, May 4, 2018 at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

A graveside service will take place at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw, Oklahoma with interment to follow.
