Obituary for Staci Schantel Sparks

Staci Schantel Sparks passed away April 10, 2018 at her residence in Midwest City, Oklahoma. She was born September 11, 1969 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Phyllis Thornton Wells.

Staci attended 12 years of Harrah public schools and graduated from Harrah High School. She was very active in school, she was a cheerleader for 7 years, played on the basketball team, competed in drama both humorous and dramatic winning state championships, active in the yearbook and yearbook queen.

Staci loved competing in barrel and pole bending in the MRCA and OYRA Junior rodeo association as a young girl. She was a lifeguard during the summers at the regional pool in Midwest City. She also was a camp counselor at Camp Lincoln at Lake Hubert in Nisswa, Minnesota for three years, her camp kids loved her and she loved them!

Staci graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science and with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Oklahoma in Occupational Therapy. She began her professional career with Midwest City Hospital as a therapist then finished her career with the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City. She worked for the VA for 16 years. She loved the VA and all her “vet patients”. She used to say, “When I win the lottery I’m going to build an assisted living center for all my special vets”.

Staci loved serving others. She would make cookies and soup for her neighbors, especially if she knew one of them was sick. She would also decorate their trees for the holidays. Additionally, she loved going to all the Broadway plays at the civic center, enjoyed the art festivals and never missing a Renaissance festival. She loved music and dance. Her secret indulgence was Disney movies. She also loved to cook and her passion was trying new recipes. She loved trying new things whether it is ballroom dancing class, a painting class or something off the wall. Scuba diving was also a passion of hers and her favorite place was Belize, Mexico and she looked forward to her annual dive trip.

Staci had a love for horses and her two dogs Trixie and Sadie. She made people laugh with her witty sense of humor and she had a contagious smile. She will be greatly missed.

Staci is survived by her mother and step-father, Phyllis T. and Tommy R. Wells; step-sisters, Rena and husband Jett Philpott, Callie and husband Mark Rogers; 5 nieces and nephews; uncles and aunts, Roy E. and Darlene S. Thornton, Jack H. and Martha E. Thornton, Gene and Juanita Poteet, Scotty Wells, Dorsey Wells and several cousins.

Staci was preceded in death by her grandparents, Margaret A. and Howard B. Thornton.

Funeral Services have been scheduled for 11:30 AM, Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Interment is scheduled for 3:30 PM, Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
