Obituary for Alva Jeane McWhirter

Alva Jeane (Howell) McWhirter
March 9, 1926 - October 31,2018

Jeane was born in Billings, Oklahoma, the third child of Alvin Jacob Howell and Celeta (Knight) Howell. She was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior while surrounded by the family who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Cecil Howell, and her sister, Norma Lee Book. Jeane was raised in Sentinel, Oklahoma and one day as she was walking down the street, she was spotted by a young man who was standing with his friends. When he saw her, he said, “Boys, there’s the girl I am going to marry” and on September 2, 1943, she became the bride of Alvis Verlin McWhirter. At the time of his death in 2003, she and Verlin had been married 59 years.
Together, Verlin and Jeane raised two children, started two businesses with his brother, (J & M Roofing and Powder Coatings Plus), traveled America with the Rollin’ Okies RV Club, and loved and worshipped the Lord. They raised their children at 12th & Drexel (now Boulevard) Church of Christ.
Jeane was such a kind, gracious and loving woman that everyone who knew her, loved her. She truly embodied the definition of unconditional love. She lived her faith and her children rose up and called her blessed. She loved and adored her family, the color turquoise, all things bling, and George Strait.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Bill) Bruce and Jim (Lisa) McWhirter, and a brother, Thomas (Judy) Howell. Her greatest blessings called her “Meena”: her grandchildren, Deena (John) Warner, Cory (Amy) Bruce, Brandon (Leslie) Hughes, Tara McWhirter, Marci Simmons, and Scott (Allyson) McWhirter. Her great-grandchildren are Sheena Egender, Kelsee (Mitchell) Roberson, Clancy, Addison and Camden Bruce; Ethan and Paden Hughes, Rylee and Raigan Simmons and finally, great-great granddaughters, Caelyn Jeane Sumpter and Carter Leigh Reed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boulevard Church of Christ, Feed The Homeless Kitchen Project 1301 N. Drexel.
