Obituary for Betty Holland

Elizabeth Jane Holland, 71, of Midwest City, died August 20, 2018, at Arbor House Assisted Living and Memory Care. She was known by most people as “Betty” but was “Nana” to her grandchildren. She was born November 22, 1946, in Corpus Christi, TX, to Ernest J. and Zella Mae Beals. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kimberlee Dawn; and her sister, Alta Ruth Clarke. Betty is survived by her husband of 52 years, David, of the home; sons, Jeffrey and wife Christie, Michael and wife Jenny, and Joshua and wife Angela; 7 grandchildren, Caleb(23)and wife Madison, Kenzie(19), Jaxon(15), Grant(13), Treyton(13), Boston(10) and Holt(7). A great granddaughter is on the way. Betty is survived by her sister, Anna Stracener, married to David, of Stoughton, Wisconsin; and she also left numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty was a long-time member of Meadowood Baptist Church, Midwest City, where she and her friends began and taught pre-K 3 and 4 year olds. She later became Director of Pre-K at First Baptist Church of Midwest City. She taught children for over 40 years before retiring in 1999. She also loved camping and going to watch her boys and her grandchildren play sports. Betty was so creative and innovative; she could make anything that would help children learn. She also sewed and crocheted and worked huge puzzles. She was a “fixer”! Betty loved to help anyone in need. She also started the Operation Christmas Child Program in her church and filled hundreds of Shoe Boxes full of school supplies, toys, and fun things for kids. Millions of those boxes have been sent worldwide packed by people like Betty. The last two years, even in her decline, she packed over 150 boxes! She was a wonder! Betty was also an integral part of a strong Sunday School class at Meadowood, and, as well, was proud to join David in the OKC Chickasaw Elders’ group.

Thanks must go out to the good folks at Arbor House of Midwest City and to Crossroads Hospice of Oklahoma City for their tireless care of Betty. Also, special thanks to Betty’s niece Kathy Crouch, who came from her home in Texas to help care for her favorite aunt.

Betty is Safely Home now in Heaven with her Lord and Savior.

Funeral services will be held to celebrate Betty’s life on Friday, August 24th, at 1pm at Meadowood Baptist Church, Reno at Woodcrest, MWC, with interment at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City. A viewing will be held Thursday evening at Barnes & Friedrich Funeral Home, 1820 S. Douglas, MWC, from 6-8pm.
