Obituary for Gisela Elie

Gisela Elie was called home on May 17, 2019 after a long fight against Parkinson’s Disease. She made it to her final Mother’s Day celebration on May 12th surrounded by her family.
Gisela was born February 22, 1938 in Kinten, East Prussia. Her family fled the war in 1944 causing her mother and father to be separated. Although hard to find a place where a mother with kids would be accepted and taken in for safety, Gisela, her two brothers, and their mother were able to find a family to take them in ensuring their safety.
Gisela grew up in Germany and spent time living in Turkey before eventually settling in the United States. In the early 70’s, she moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma with her husband and three daughters and started a long career at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. Gisela divorced in 1979 and raised her three daughters (Cheryl, Tanya, and Stephanie) on her own as a single parent in this same Midwest City home. Gisela gained her US citizenship in 1991 and retired from St. Anthony Hospital in 2004 after 28 years of dedicated service.
Gisela loved nature. She was an avid gardener and always had birdseed and clean birdbaths for her feathered friends. Gisela loved being surrounded by her family and was affectionately referred to as “Grammy” by her grand and great grandchildren and their friends.
Gisela was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Lisbeth Stephan; two brothers, Dieter Stephan and Siegfried Stephan, and daughter Cheryl Lisbeth (Elie) Cowden. Gisela is survived by daughters, Tanya (Elie) Bryant and Stephanie (Elie) Bloomer; sons-in-law, Michael Cowden, Justin Bryant, and Juan Bloomer; grandchildren, Brandi Harris, Cole Harris, Chase Bloomer, Devin Bloomer and Parker Bloomer; and great grandchildren, Lorelei, Noah, and Stella.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma.
