Obituary for J.R. Tucker

J. R. Tucker was born on August 22, 1953 to Rev. and Mrs. Boyd Tucker, and passed away on June 15, 2019. He began preaching at the age of 19, and at age 22, he married Betty Watkins, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E.T. Watkins.

He was ordained with the Assemblies of God on October 23, 1956 at the age of 23 years. He also attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College, Oral Roberts University, Rose State College and Kingdom Advancement School of Theology. In his ministry work, he evangelized for 10 years, pastored four Assemblies of God Churches: Oklahoma City Southside – 1959, Lake Elsinore, CA – 1967 to 1968, Duncan, OK – 1968 to 1981, and Harvest Life, Midwest City – 1981 – current. His ministry totaled over 67 years of service.

J.R. Tucker carried many names over his lifetime—Pastor Tucker, Pastor T, Dad, and Grandpa—and was loved by the countless sons and daughters he influenced and raised up over his 85 years of life. He loved the Lord, the ministry, and his family above all. Often referred to as, ‘The Walking Bible,’ Pastor T could always be found studying, reading, teaching, and preaching. He was also a crisp, sharp dresser, who continually directed young ministers to look their best for the Lord!

He loved fast cars and fast driving! He also loved quartet music and concerts. Most of all, J.R. Tucker loved the house of the Lord. In fact, if he wasn’t in church, it was only because church wasn’t happening at the time!

His legacy will live on through generations to come, and while Pastor T will be greatly missed, there is no doubt that he is rejoicing with his Lord and Savior!

J.R. was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Boyd Tucker; his brother, Darrel Tucker; his son, Kent Tucker; and grandson, Isaiah Tucker. He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Kelley Tucker; grandchildren, Isaac and Mariah Tucker; his twin sister and her husband, Faye and Les Showell of Oklahoma City; sister, Melba Dunn of Del City; sister and her husband, ReNee and Greg Miller of Choctaw; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, a host of friends, and his Harvest Life Church family.
