Obituary for Linda Long Skaarer

Linda Long Skaarer passed away on May 19, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents Noel Irby Long and Elizabeth Long. Linda was a loving, caring, sharp, witty, daughter, wife, mother, realtor, and friend of many. She is greatly missed. Linda was born January 21, 1942, in a farm house near Bolivar Tennessee and was an only child. As a child her parents moved to Memphis, TN. She attended local schools and graduated from Memphis State University in Dec 1963. In 1964 she married fellow college student Tim Skaarer, a new Air Force second lieutenant. They were married 54 years. Shortly thereafter they located to Sacramento, CA, where Linda taught seventh grade science. After several Air Force moves Linda found herself in Midwest City, OK. Here she discovered her career calling in residential real estate. For 25 years she was a successful and respected real estate agent. She eventually retired from real estate due to liver disease. In 2005 Linda required and received a liver transplant. In 2010 she required and received a kidney transplant from a living donor (daughter). Both successful transplants done at Integris Baptist Hospital. Due to the acute illness of Linda (coma) the family considers the critical timing and receipt of a liver for transplant simply a miracle. For Linda, the transplants allowed 14 more years of life and the supreme joy of being a grandmother to 11 year old granddaughter Mary Beth Brown and 7 year old grandson Duncan Brown. Linda had a special bond with Dr. Anthony Sebastian her liver transplant doctor/surgeon whom she reveres for his medical skill and humanity. Also, Dr. Gary D. Bond her nephrologist, for his medical skill and their special friendship, plus their staff(s) especially nurse Terry. Also, Linda is grateful to the kidney transplant team, Drs. Scott and Shea Samara for their medical skill and caring staff. Finally, she is grateful to Integris seventh floor personnel which include the Intensive Care Unit. During the past 15 years Linda spent months on the seventh floor receiving great care. In closing, a word about dementia. Suddenly in May 2018 Linda was formally diagnosed with dementia. It proved to be a fast, cruel, unyielding, disease of the brain that robbed us of our precious Linda. As such, we are grateful to Integris Hospice and the great care and concern shown during this difficult time. In summary, Linda is the proud mother of Jenny Lynn Skaarer, Midwest City, and Nancy (Casey) Skaarer Brown, Oklahoma City. From childhood Linda has been a devote Christian and member of Meadowood Baptist Church in Midwest City for 46 years. A come-and-go celebration of Life for Linda is scheduled on Saturday, May 25, 2019 between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm at Barnes Friederich, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd. Midwest City, OK.
