Obituary for Sean Thornton

Sean Sparks Thornton passed away April 11, 2018 at his residence. He was born January 21, 1967 in Oklahoma City, OK to Phyllis Thornton Wells. Sean moved to Harrah public schools as a second grade student and graduated from Harrah High School. He was a member of the swim team as well as the wrestling team. He spent his summers as a Sr. life guard with Midwest City Regional pool in Midwest City, OK.

Sean graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business from Oklahoma State University. He then acquired his pilot’s license at Spartan School of Aviation in Tulsa, OK. Sean started his career with OKC Flight Charter Downtown Air Park then he was Chief Pilot with Air Charter and Century 21 Aviation; he finished his flying career with Dobson Technologies (DWL) as Corporate Pilot and worked there for over 15 years of his flying career. He was a flight instructor in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, as well. Sean had a passion for flying, he loved airplanes and loved being in the air, even as a 2 year old child he dreamed of being an astronaut, flying was the love of his life.

He was a very social guy, loved his friends, his family and his puppy Mollie. He loved spending time at the lake with his family and friends, riding his sea doo and his motorcycle and when the opportunity came, he enjoyed scuba diving. He really got a thrill out of driving his grandma’s yellow 1965 Camaro. It goes without saying, he loved people. He enjoyed going to Life Church and driving the golf cart on Sundays, he would say “picking up the old people.” He was a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) in Oklahoma City, OK. He was a true believer. Sean was also a great comic book enthusiast and a big movie buff, especially Star Wars and Star Trek. He will be greatly missed!

Sean is survived by her mother and step-father, Phyllis T. and Tommy R. Wells; step-sisters, Rena and husband Jett Philpott, Callie and husband Mark Rogers; 5 nieces and nephews; uncles and aunts, Roy E. and Darlene S. Thornton, Jack H. and Martha E. Thornton, Gene and Juanita Poteet, Scotty Wells, Dorsey Wells and several cousins.

Sean was preceded in death by his sister, Staci Schantel Sparks and his grandparents, Margaret A. and Howard B. Thornton.
